Scripture Reading

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." — 2 TIMOTHY 3:16-17 "Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth." — JOHN 17:17

Explanation of the Passage

The Bible is not merely a collection of human wisdom or historical accounts. It is the 'God-breathed' revelation of His will to mankind. Every word is inspired, meaning it carries the weight of divine authority. Reproof and correction are necessary because human wisdom often fails us, but God's Word remains an immovable anchor.

Giving the Sense

The 'sense' of these passages is that truth is objective and external to ourselves. If God's Word is truth, then any teaching or feeling that contradicts it is false. Being 'complete' means the Bible contains everything we need for salvation and spiritual maturity; we do not need human traditions or modern revelations to know how to please God.

Understanding the Truth

The reader must understand that to be saved, one must first submit to the authority of the Scriptures. We cannot make up our own path to God. If the Bible is the standard, our primary responsibility is to read it, believe it, and obey it without adding to or taking away from His instructions.

Reflection Questions

Think through these on your own, or discuss them with a fellow student or mentor.

1 Why is it dangerous to rely on personal feelings for spiritual truth? 2 What does it mean for a person to be 'thoroughly equipped' by the Bible? 3 How should the inspiration of Scripture change the way you approach your daily study?

Next Step

Spend 15 minutes today reading Psalm 119 and identifying three things the psalmist says about the value of God's Word. Commit to using the Bible as your final authority in this study series.
