Lesson 2 min read

Narrated in a warm pastoral voice. The full text is read exactly as written.

Scripture Reading

"Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you." — MATTHEW 28:19-20 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear." — 1 PETER 3:15

Explanation of the Passage

Every believer is called to be a witness. The mission of the church is to make disciples by teaching the Gospel. We must be prepared to explain why we believe what we believe.

Giving the Sense

The sense of our mission is urgency and compassion. If we have the truth that saves souls, we cannot keep it to ourselves. We share the hope of Christ with 'meekness' because we were also once lost.

Understanding the Truth

Sharing your faith is not an option for 'some' Christians; it is the privilege and duty of all. Our lives and our words should both point people toward Jesus.

Supporting Scriptures

Additional passages to read and meditate on alongside this lesson.

Acts 1:8 Romans 10:14-15 2 Corinthians 5:20

Reflection Questions

Think through these on your own, or discuss them with a fellow student or mentor.

1 Who is one person in your life that needs to hear the Gospel? 2 How can you prepare yourself to 'give a defense' for your hope? 3 Why should we share the truth with 'meekness and fear'?

Next Step

Identify one person you will pray for every day this week, asking God for an opportunity to share a word of hope with them.
