Scripture Reading

"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." — ROMANS 3:23 "But your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, so that He will not hear." — ISAIAH 59:1-2

Explanation of the Passage

Sin is rebellion against God's law. It is not just a mistake; it is a spiritual condition that affects every human being. The result of sin is death—not just physical, but eternal separation from the presence of God.

Giving the Sense

The sense of the fall is that man broke the relationship God intended. We cannot reach God on our own because our sin creates a barrier that human effort cannot climb or destroy.

Understanding the Truth

Every person must realize they are personally lost without Christ. There is no 'good enough' person; everyone requires the grace of God to bridge the gap sin has created.

Reflection Questions

Think through these on your own, or discuss them with a fellow student or mentor.

1 How does the Bible's definition of sin differ from the world's? 2 Why is separation from God the most serious consequence of sin? 3 Do you recognize sin as a personal barrier in your own life?

Next Step

Read Romans chapter 3 and acknowledge before God that you cannot save yourself by your own works. Ask Him to help you understand the depth of His grace.
